We are back with another commercial vehicle auto sales report in January 2022. As per the report, Tata again took the lead in sales.
India's second-largest commercial vehicle maker, Tata Motors Ltd, has registered another record-breaking sales number in Jan 2022, standing at 72,485 units.
The year 2022 was a good start for the commercial vehicle business. Unlike the last 18 months, there has been a decent growth in the sales of commercial vehicles this year. The sales number is also higher than 35,299 units sold in December 2021 and 33,925 units sold in October 2021
.
Electric vehicles have also set a new record in sales by keeping the recent trends. 2,892 units of electric vehicles are sold in Jan 2022, which is 6 times higher than Jan 2021. Also, the sales number is substantially higher compared to 2,255 units sold in December 2021.
Total commercial vehicle sales stood at 35,268 units 34,151 units in Dec 2021, up 7% in Jan 2022.
Medium & Heavy Vehicle sales had been hit especially hard by COVID-19 lockdowns. The segment recorded 8,660 units in January, up from 8,106 units in December.

Tata Motors did very well in Jan 2022, but unfortunately, its rival VECV (Joint Venture of Volvo & Eicher) fell in Jan 2022. The company sold 5434 units in Jan 2022, down 4.2% from 5673 units on Jan 21. Also, VECV registered 42,418 units in 2022-21 than 28,771 units in 2020-21, recording 47.4% growth. Still, the company runs 42% higher in its sales for the current financial year that ends in March. It was the time when we were all suffering from COVID-19.
In domestic sales, Eicher recorded 4,159 units in Jan 2022, a decline of 11.5% from 4,702 units in January 2021. Also, the company recorded 32,255 units in 2021-22 compared with 22,659 units in 2020-21, recording 42.3% growth.
The sales of trucks with a carrying capacity of more than 3.5 tonnes declined by around 10-12% during the month.
