Daimler India Launches BharatBenz Torqshift Trucks with 12-Speed AMT

Enhancing Mining and Construction Efficiency with Torqshift Technology

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG has launched its BharatBenz Torqshift Trucks. This range features a 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) called 'Torqshift’. The technology has been proven in Mercedes-Benz trucks globally and is now adapted for the Indian market. This launch expands BharatBenz’s construction and mining truck offerings with models such as the Bharatbenz 3532CM, 4032T, 5532TS, 5532T, and 2832CM.

Key Highlights of Torqshift Launch

Revolutionizing Construction and Mining Operations

The 12-speed AMT is designed to offer smoother gear shifts and improve driving ease. The technology will be available in several BharatBenz models, including mining tippers and surface tippers. The AMT feature will also be available in Tractor Trailers (TT), enhancing both productivity and road safety.

Deliveries of the 3532CM BharatBenz Torqshift trucks have already started, and the trucks are already in use. The technology promises to improve operational productivity and reduce costs. It also aims to provide greater efficiency in construction, mining, and long-haul operations.

Statements from Key Executives

Sreeram Venkateswaran, The President and Chief Business Officer– Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), shared, “Heavy-duty Construction and Mining (CM) trucks are one of our strengths and we have considerable presence in this space. With the new 12-speed AMT in our CM portfolio, the customers will see a significant benefit in productivity improvement in their operations and notable savings as the overall fleet efficiency will go up. The deliveries for the 3532CM BharatBenz Torqshift trucks have started and vehicles are already being deployed in operations. We will offer AMT in Tractor Trailers (TT) as well, which will not only enhance the productivity of the vehicles, but play a critical role in improving road safety as well.”

"This is a segment we foresee growing steadily and with road infrastructure rapidly shaping up, BharatBenz Torqshift range will add a lot of value to our long-haul logistics customers. Our AMT technology, adapted from Mercedes-Benz trucks, delivers consistently on the total cost of ownership equation. It is ideally engineered to suit Indian conditions to offer incredible value through our Mining Tippers, Surface Tippers and Tractor Trailers," he added.

Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President and Chief Technology Officer- Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, also stated, “The 12-speed AMT is a big triumph for us at India Product Engineering as we achieved our goal to introduce this transmission in our BharatBenz portfolio after meticulous planning and adaptive engineering, ensuring minimal cost of development. A global technology like the Mercedes-Benz AMT, seamlessly integrated in our BharatBenz Torqshift range of trucks, keeps in mind our customers’ needs in the market. This technology is designed to reduce driving stress and to ensure a faster turnaround with significantly higher fuel efficiency. Torqshift is engineered to minimize maintenance, significantly improving the total cost of ownership for our customers. This aligns perfectly with our intent to deliver not only well-engineered and safe products, but also ones that add tremendous value to our customers’ businesses.”

Design and Performance

  • Comfort and Efficiency with Torqshift

The Torqshift range features a wider selection of gear ratios. It comes with a gross combination weight (GCW) of 28 to 55 tonnes. This makes the BharatBenz trucks ideal for heavy-duty tasks in construction, mining, and long-haul transport. The system eliminates the need for synchromesh parts, enhancing reliability and reducing overhaul needs. The lightweight alloy housing contributes to an improved power-to-weight ratio.

  • Fuel Efficiency and Lower Operating Costs

The Torqshift’s design is fuel-efficient and optimized for different operating conditions. It reduces operational costs and extends service intervals. The system also features software-controlled powertrain protection to prevent damage in challenging conditions.

  • Multiple Driving Modes for Flexibility

The Torqshift trucks offer different driving modes, including auto, manual, power, and eco, making it easier for drivers to adapt to different environments. This flexibility enhances both driving comfort and safety.

Growing Market Demand and Future Expectations

Daimler India has recently received a first order of 80 units for the 3532CM mining tippers. This indicates a significant market interest in the recently introduced Torqshift-equipped BharatBenz trucks. The business expects that this novel technology will benefit long-haul logistics clients by increasing productivity, lowering costs, and improving safety.

BharatBenz's Torqshift portfolio sets new productivity and efficiency norms for Indian enterprises, notably in construction, mining, and long-haul transport. Its trucks are a trustworthy choice since they focus on adopting global technology to fit Indian demands.
