A New Era in Last-Mile Delivery
VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a partnership between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, has made an important move into the small commercial vehicle (SCV) segment. The company has launched the Eicher Pro X series, which falls in the 2-3.5 tonne category. This new vehicle series focuses on electric power first and aims to improve last-mile logistics.
The Pro X series was recently showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It is designed to offer better efficiency, smart technology, and flexibility when using different types of powertrains. This makes it a strong choice for businesses needing reliable and sustainable transportation solutions.
Why Eicher Entered the SCV Market
VECV’s decision to enter the SCV market is based on the increasing demand for efficient city transportation.
Vinod Aggarwal, the Managing Director and CEO of VECV, highlighted the company’s vision:

The SCV segment, especially the 2-3.5T category, is growing fast due to the rise of e-commerce, FMCG, and courier businesses. Aggarwal further added, “The Eicher Pro X represents our brand philosophy, ‘Nayi Soch, Naye Raaste’ (New Thinking, New Roads). As India moves forward with its ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision, small commercial vehicles will play a major role. The Pro X will help transform last-mile logistics.”
Designed with Customers in Mind
Eicher developed the Pro X series after studying the needs of thousands of customers. Sachin Agrawal, Executive VP & Head of Product Development at VECV, explained, “We engaged with more than 1,000 customers and gathered over 3,000 unique insights. We used this information to shape the Pro X using Quality Function Deployment (QFD).”
The Pro X is built on a flexible platform that supports various uses, such as refrigerated transport, parcel delivery, and white goods transportation. The vehicle has 93 patented innovations that focus on driver comfort, safety, and efficiency.
Agrawal shared some unique features: “The flat-floor cabin allows drivers to move easily and even lie down to rest. It also includes a Driver State Monitoring System (DSMS) and front-facing collision warning cameras, making driving safer.”
In addition, the Pro X optimizes energy use by automatically switching between power and eco modes. “With an energy efficiency of 93-94%, it is at least 10% more efficient than other similar vehicles in the market,” he added. The vehicle’s design also removes the need for a propeller shaft, further improving energy usage.
Market Potential and Growth Plans
Eicher’s move into the SCV segment is backed by strong market research. Abhishek Chaudhary, Senior Vice President – SCVs at VECV, highlighted the market opportunity: “The SCV segment sells around 330,000 to 340,000 units per year, growing at a steady rate of 6-7% annually. Our approach ensures that our product is built to meet real customer needs.”
He also pointed out that Eicher’s strong reputation in the light and medium-duty (LMD) truck segment gives it a competitive edge. “Customers trust Eicher for its innovation and reliability. The Pro X is a result of our deep experience in the commercial vehicle industry.”
Advanced Manufacturing at Bhopal Plant
The Pro X is manufactured at VECV’s state-of-the-art factory in Bhopal, which follows Industry 4.0 principles. B. Srinivas, Chief Operating Officer at VECV, explained, “Our greenfield plant was designed from the ground up to include the best global practices. It supports diesel, CNG, and electric vehicle production, ensuring future flexibility.”
The plant can initially produce 40,000 units, with the capacity to scale up to 80,000. It also operates using a just-in-sequence (JIS) inventory system, ensuring smooth supply chain operations. “Unlike traditional just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing, JIS helps match supplier production schedules with our assembly line, improving cost efficiency,” Srinivas noted.
Another standout feature of the Bhopal plant is its focus on gender diversity. “The Pro X assembly line is managed entirely by women, showcasing our commitment to inclusivity. Their precision and dedication add great value to the production process,” he added.
Smart Features and Customer Support
Eicher understands that fleet operators look for vehicles that offer low costs and high efficiency. S.S. Gill, Chief Commercial Officer at VECV, stated, “For fleet owners, the total cost of ownership (TCO) matters the most. This includes factors beyond the purchase price, such as fuel efficiency, uptime, and vehicle monitoring.”
To support customers, Eicher offers the MyEicher app and Eicher Live solutions, which provide real-time diagnostics and fleet tracking. “We launched India’s first industry uptime centre five years ago, allowing fleet owners to monitor vehicle health and minimize downtime,” Gill added.
The Pro X also features firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates, allowing software improvements without the need for a service visit.
Future-Ready for Different Fuel Types
Although the Pro X series is starting with an electric-first approach, it is designed to support multiple fuel types. Chaudhary noted, “No single fuel can be the solution for the entire industry. While we begin with electric, CNG and diesel variants will follow.”
Srinivas added, “Our production facility allows us to manufacture different powertrains on the same line. This ensures we stay ready for future fuel trends.”
With the launch of the Pro X series, Eicher is set to change the SCV market in India. By combining sustainability, smart features, and customer-focused design, the Pro X is a revolutionary step forward in last-mile logistics.
