Three-Wheeler Sales Witness 6.32% Year-on-Year Growth
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the three-wheeler retail sales data for May 2025, revealing a total of 104,488 units sold across India. This marks a 6.32% increase compared to 98,274 units sold in May 2024. Despite mixed brand-level performance, the overall growth signifies a steady demand for last-mile connectivity, particularly supported by the expanding electric vehicle ecosystem.
Brand-Wise 3-Wheeler Sales Performance – May 2025
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto continued to lead the three-wheeler segment with 34,597 units sold in May 2025. However, this figure represents a 2.62% decline compared to 35,529 units sold in May 2024.
Mahindra & Mahindra Group
The Mahindra Group posted a solid 36.24% year-on-year growth, recording 7,203 units in May 2025 compared to 5,287 units a year ago. The group’s success is divided across two business entities:
- Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd. emerged as a major contributor, with 7,176 units in May 2025, a sharp rise from 5,151 units in May 2024, reflecting an impressive 39.31% growth.
- Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, however, recorded just 27 units, a steep 80.15% drop from 136 units in May 2024, continuing the decline in the ICE three-wheeler category.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd
Piaggio reported an 11.39% year-on-year decline, selling 6,218 units in May 2025 versus 7,017 units in the same period last year. The fall in sales could be a result of market pressure from newer EV players and reduced uptake in some goods carrier categories.
Y.C. Electric
Y.C. Electric registered 3,684 units in May 2025, a marginal drop of 2.51% from 3,779 units last year. The brand remains a strong contender in the affordable passenger e-rickshaw segment, especially in northern India, despite this small dip.
TVS Motors
TVS Motors recorded a stellar growth of 100.99%, selling 3,451 units in May 2025, nearly double the 1,717 units sold in May 2024. This remarkable rise showcases TVS’s strengthened presence in both passenger and cargo three-wheeler spaces, supported by its growing electric portfolio.
Atul Auto
Atul Auto witnessed a decline of 16.53%, with 2,045 units sold in May 2025 compared to 2,450 units a year earlier. The drop may be linked to slower recovery in certain regional markets and increased competition from electric-first OEMs.
Mayuri
Mayuri's performance also dipped this month, with 2,004 units sold in May 2025 as against 2,473 units in May 2024 — a 18.96% fall. The brand may be facing market saturation and pressure from newer, cost-effective EV entrants.
Citylife
Citylife recorded 1,734 units in May 2025, showing a 21.40% decrease from 2,206 units last year. The decline may point to shifting consumer choices and heightened competition in the urban e-rickshaw space.
Others Including EVs
The ‘Others Including EV’ category registered a healthy 15.06% growth, with 43,512 units sold in May 2025 as compared to 37,816 units in May 2024. This segment includes regional electric vehicle brands and emerging OEMs that continue to expand due to growing demand for affordable, energy-efficient mobility solutions, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.
