Jupiter Electric Mobility Targets 1 Lakh EV Sales in 5 Years, Expands LCV Lineup

Expanding LCV Offerings to Drive Electric Mobility Growth

Kolkata-based Jupiter Wagons Ltd, a leading manufacturer of railway wagons, wagon components, and commercial vehicle load bodies, has expanded into the electric mobility sector through its subsidiary, Jupiter Electric Mobility. The company recently launched its electric small truck, JEM Tez, in Indore, marking its entry into the fast-growing electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.

Key Highlights of the Launch

  • Jupiter Electric Mobility launched JEM Tez, an electric small truck with a 1.1-tonne payload capacity.
  • The company aims to sell 1 lakh electric vehicles over the next five years.
  • Expansion plans include launching 2-tonne and 3-tonne electric trucks by the end of the year.
  • Focus on last-mile delivery and urban logistics solutions.
  • Production facility in Pithampur (Indore) with an annual capacity of 8,000 vehicles.

Strengthening Presence in the LCV Segment

Jupiter Electric Mobility aims to establish a strong presence in the LCV market, leveraging its existing expertise in manufacturing for major OEMs like Tata Motors and Eicher. The company has collaborated with Green Power (USA) and Log9 Materials to integrate advanced battery technology, ensuring superior performance for its electric trucks.

Speaking at the launch event, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons Ltd, highlighted the company’s vision for the EV market. "The SCV segment in India exceeds four lakh units annually, and even a 25-30% EV adoption rate translates into a one-lakh unit opportunity. While large OEMs will dominate, our focus will be on differentiation through technology, reliability, and after-sales support."

Future EV Product Roadmap

Jupiter Electric Mobility is following a structured approach to EV expansion. The company plans to launch 2-tonne and 3-tonne electric trucks by the end of the year, strengthening its position in the urban logistics and last-mile delivery sector. With the market shifting towards larger EV models, Jupiter aims to offer a complete product lineup to meet growing demand.

Scaling Up Production and Market Expansion

Initially, the company is focusing on metro markets with well-established charging infrastructure. The Pithampur facility in Indore has a current production capacity of 8,000 vehicles per year, with plans to scale up as demand increases.

"If we achieve a steady volume of 400-500 vehicles per month, scaling up will become significantly easier. Unlike the railway sector, which requires heavy equipment and long timelines, EV manufacturing is primarily assembly-driven, making it easier to expand operations," Lohia added.

Driving India’s Electric Commercial Vehicle Market

With its strategic focus on LCVs and advanced EV technology, Jupiter Electric Mobility is set to play a crucial role in India's transition towards sustainable transportation. The company’s structured expansion plan and focus on product innovation position it as a key player in the evolving electric truck segment.
