Olectra Greentech to Deliver 297 Electric Buses to HRTC

Boosting Eco-Friendly Public Transport in Himachal Pradesh

Olectra Greentech Limited, a key player in India’s electric mobility sector, has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) for the supply and maintenance of 297 electric buses. The total order is valued at approximately ₹424.01 crores and will be executed within 11 months.

This strategic move aligns with India’s goal to electrify public transportation and reduce carbon emissions, especially in sensitive regions like Himachal Pradesh. The order will be executed on an outright sale basis, and Olectra will also handle the maintenance, ensuring a complete service package.

Key Highlights of the Order:

  • LOA Received from HRTC: Olectra Greentech has secured the order to supply and maintain 297 electric buses for Himachal Pradesh’s public transport fleet.

  • Project Value: The deal is worth ₹424.01 crore, reinforcing Olectra’s growing role in India's EV ecosystem.

  • Execution Timeline: The delivery and deployment of the buses will be completed within 11 months from the date of LOA.

  • Outright Sale & Maintenance: The electric buses will be sold outright, and Olectra will also provide maintenance services.

  • Compliance and Transparency: Olectra clarified to BSE and NSE that the transaction is not a related party deal, and neither promoters nor group companies have any stake in HRTC.

Statements from Company Officials

In a regulatory filing, Olectra stated, “This order marks another milestone in our mission to electrify public transport in India. We remain committed to delivering sustainable mobility solutions backed by comprehensive support and maintenance services.”

Supporting India’s EV Vision

India’s electric vehicle mission is driven by the aim to cut carbon emissions, reduce oil dependency, and boost green mobility. The FAME II scheme continues to provide incentives for EV adoption, especially in the public transport segment. Additionally, the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme supports domestic EV and battery manufacturing.

Public Transport at the Heart of Electrification

The transport sector is one of the major contributors to urban pollution. To address this, both central and state governments are focusing on electrifying buses, taxis, and last-mile delivery vehicles. Entities like EESL and the Department of Heavy Industries have rolled out large-scale tenders in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru to promote e-bus adoption.

Why Electric Buses Make Sense

Electric buses are not only clean but also offer lower operational costs compared to traditional diesel buses. With falling battery prices and expanding charging infrastructure, the adoption of electric buses is picking up pace. India’s broader vision is to have a significant portion of its public transport fleet electrified by 2030.
