A Major Step Towards Clean Mobility and Electric Freight Transition
Ravindra Energy Limited’s associate company, Energy In Motion (EIM), has signed an exclusive agreement with Beiqi FOTON Motor Co. Ltd., a global leader in commercial vehicle manufacturing and a subsidiary of the BAIC Group. This strategic partnership aims to introduce electric heavy commercial vehicles (E-HCVs) in India, with the commercial rollout scheduled to begin in Q2 of FY 2025–26.
The partnership marks a significant development in India’s clean mobility landscape, as FOTON brings its global expertise in electric truck manufacturing to the Indian market through EIM.
Key Highlights of the Strategic Collaboration
The partnership between EIM and FOTON is set to revolutionize India's freight mobility sector with sustainable and future-ready solutions.
Exclusive Assembly and Marketing Rights
Under the agreement, EIM will hold exclusive rights to assemble and market FOTON’s electric heavy-duty goods vehicles across the country. This includes a wide range of commercial EVs, including trucks, tippers, and refrigerated vans.
Global Backing and Proven Track Record
In 2024 alone, FOTON sold over 600,000 commercial vehicles worldwide, reinforcing its position as a global commercial vehicle powerhouse. Notably, it was also the first in China’s commercial vehicle sector to obtain an autonomous driving road test license, highlighting its innovation-first approach.
Infrastructure Development for EV Adoption
Beyond manufacturing, EIM will set up a nationwide battery swapping and charging network to support electric trucks. This network will be powered by renewable energy supplied by Ravindra Energy Limited, ensuring an end-to-end clean energy ecosystem.
Focus on Decarbonizing Freight Transport
EIM’s electric trucks are set to provide a viable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional diesel fleets, especially in the heavy-duty segment. Notably, trucks make up only 4% of Indian vehicles but contribute over 30% of carbon emissions. The introduction of E-HCVs is expected to yield significant environmental benefits.
Additionally, declining battery costs and advancements in technology now make electric heavy-duty trucks cost-competitive with diesel-powered equivalents, even without subsidies.
Statements from Key Leaders
Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Vice Chairman of Ravindra Energy Limited and Managing Director of Energy In Motion, emphasized the importance of this partnership, “This collaboration with FOTON is a testament to our dedication to clean mobility solutions and energy innovation. With EIM at the forefront, we are poised to bring globally recognized electric heavy vehicles to the Indian market, offering efficient, eco-friendly, and commercially viable alternatives to traditional diesel-powered fleets.”
He further added, “We are also establishing a network of heavy-duty charging cum battery swapping stations across the country to support the transition to electric trucking. Technology and battery costs for electric heavy vehicles now make them competitive versus diesel-powered equivalents without subsidies.”
Outlook for Electric Mobility in Freight
This exclusive agreement between EIM and FOTON positions Ravindra Energy and its associates at the center of India's electric commercial vehicle revolution. By combining clean manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and global technology, the collaboration is expected to accelerate the shift towards sustainable freight transport in India.
As India continues to invest in green mobility, partnerships like this will play a pivotal role in achieving decarbonization goals, transforming logistics, and boosting the country’s efforts in building a cleaner and smarter transportation ecosystem.
