Tata Motors Launches its First Vehicle Scrapping Facility Re.Wi.Re. in Jaipur

This State-of-the-art Vehicle Scrapping Facility has the capacity to scrap 15,000 units of End of the Life vehicles

Tata Motors, India's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has taken a giant step in the vehicle scrappage facility. The brand has launched its first vehicle scrapping facility Re.Wi.Re - Recycle With Respect in Jaipur. Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility. It has a capacity of 15,000 vehicles and follows world-class eco-friendly processes for the safe and sustainable dismantling of end-of-life vehicles. The facility is developed and operated by the partner of Tata Motors, Ganganagar Udyog Pvt. Ltd., to dismantle old passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands.

On the inauguration of this first Re.Wi.Re RVSF (Register Vehicle Scrapping Facility), Hon'ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Government of India, Shri Nitin Gadkari, said, "The National Vehicle Scrappage Policy was introduced with the aim to promote circular economy by creating an ecosystem for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles and to achieve a lower carbon footprint in the country by replacing them with greener and more fuel efficient vehicles. I congratulate Tata Motors for setting-up this quality facility that is at par with global standards. We are working towards positioning India as a vehicle scrapping hub for the entire South Asian region and need more such state-of-the-art scrapping and recycling units in India."

Official Statement From the OEM:-

Mr Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors, said, "At Tata Motors, we are committed to delve into every aspect of mobility to make it greener and sustainable. The inauguration of this RVSF (Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility) heralds a new beginning in responsible scrapping of end-of-life vehicles. With globally benchmarked and optimised recycling processes, we intend to yield maximum value from the scrap for future use and minimise waste for the overall betterment. We appreciate the visionary efforts of Shri Gadkari ji in enabling the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy and look forward to setting-up Re.Wi.Re facilities across the country in collaboration with our partners. These decentralised facilities will benefit the customers, share the economic value generated, create employment while addressing the need of scrapping vehicles in every part of the country in an eco-friendly manner.

About the Scrapping Centre & Processes:-

Mr Rajesh Kaul, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Tata Motors, explained the whole process of this vehicle scrapping facility. He said this is the company's first set up as a Registered Vehicle Scrappage Facility (RVSF) branded as Re.Wi.Re - Recycle With Respect. Also, it brings so much transparency to the system, as at the other scrapping facilities, the vehicle's valuation is based on gut feeling. But, here, the valuation methodology is transparent, and its basis is on the merit of the vehicle the price is evaluated.

The points on which the vehicle is evaluated are engine, condition, tyre condition, and body. In addition, there are many stations after the vehicle enters the facility; these stations have different work. Every station has its significance and work; the oil, gases, and fuels are filtered out and based on the category, it gets decided whether it can be reused or not. Likewise, the other stations remove batteries, electric parts, plastic, metal, drivetrain, engine, brakes, etc. At the End of this process, you will get the bare shell of the vehicle. Mr Rajesh Kaul said this is a matter of pride, as we have a Standard Operating Procedure for each process that identifies how you treat and dismantle an unfit vehicle meant to be scrapped.

Re-Cycling and Its Benefits:-

In addition, he also described the recycling process and its benefits from the circular economy. He said all vehicle parts could be reused depending on the conditions, which is beneficial for the country. Mr Rajesh Kaul quoted Mr Nitin Gadkari and said lots of imports are happening for the old scrap vehicles in the country. We in our country have close to 1 crore vehicles which can be scrapped and recycled. This process will bring down the cost of the vehicles, and by dismantling old vehicles, you can sell more new vehicles, which will create several jobs. Moreover, it will help depollute the system more as the old vehicles create high pollution and it consumes more money on maintenance.
