The Three Wheeler segment has seen a 59% growth in retail sales in Dec 2021. All the OEMs posted a YOY growth except Piaggio and TVS Motors.
We are back with another three-wheeler retail sales report announced by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). According to FADA, three Wheeler rickshaw sales grew by 59.50% in December 2021. Three Wheeler rickshaw retail sales stood at 44,288 units, up from 27,766 units sold in December 2020. However, it was a de-growth by 24.50% over 58,657 units sold in December 2019.

Bajaj Auto topped the list of three Wheeler rickshaw retail sales in Dec 2021 and was the only three-wheeler OEM to see retails cross the 10,000 unit mark. The retail sales of Bajaj rose from 9,601 units sold in Dec 2020 to 13,844 units in Dec 2021, while market share dropped from 34.58% to 31.26% YoY. The latest launch Bajaj Maxima C has seen an increased demand in India, taking a leadership position in its segment. Also, the company announced plans to launch electric three-wheelers.
The second best selling three-wheeler maker on the list is Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. The retail sales of Piaggio dropped from 5,045 units sold in Dec 2020 to 4,033 in the past month. Also, the market share decreased by 50% to 9.11% in Dec 2021, down from 18.17% held in Dec 2020. The company is the leader in the electric cargo 3W market. Ape E-Xtra FX and passenger e-three wheeler, Ape E-City has made ist significant identity in the e-cargo three-wheeler segment. Both the electric models are available at Rs 3.12 lakh and Rs 2.83 lakh, respectively.
Mahindra has seen 34.79% growth in retail sales in Dec 2021. The retail sales stood at 1,635 units in Dec 2021, up from 1,213 units sold in Dec 2020. The market share of the company is 3.69% in the last month.
Atul Auto sold 1,476 units in Dec 2021, up from 1,192 units in Dec 2020. It shows a 23.83% increment in retail sales. The market share of the company is 3.33%.
TVS Motor Company saw its 3W retail sales drop to 773 units in Dec 2021, decreasing from 792 units sold in Dec 2020. Market share also reduced from 2.85% held in Dec 2021 to 1.75% in Dec 2021.
