Urban Glide Enters India’s Public Bus Market with 500 Buses

A New Partnership to Transform City Transport

Komorebi Tech Solutions, the parent company of the Cityflo app, has teamed up with Globus Trans Solutions LLP to launch a new company called Urban Glide. This joint venture will run public buses under India’s Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. In the first year, Urban Glide plans to operate 500 buses, starting a big step in improving public transport in Indian cities.

What is the GCC Model?

Under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, private companies run the buses, but the government controls the routes and fares. This model has already worked well in other countries like Singapore and the UK. In India, the government wants to shift more than 2 lakh (200,000) state-run buses to this new system, which opens up a huge market worth about ₹1 lakh crore every year.

Urban Glide’s Vision for Better Public Transport

Urban Glide will first launch 150 buses in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and later expand to other parts of the country. Jerin Venad, CEO of Cityflo, believes this move is more than just a business step—it’s a big change for the future of India’s cities.

He said, “India will soon move over 200 million people every day using clean, electric, and well-managed buses. We want to be ready for that scale and quality.”

In addition, Victor Nagaonkar and Sunil Solanki, both experienced names in the public transport space, are leading this partnership. Their deep knowledge will help build strong systems and smooth operations.

Solving Old Problems with New Ideas

India’s current public bus system faces many issues like old buses, poor service, and lack of funds. The new GCC model aims to fix these problems by bringing in private sector expertise while the government keeps control over key rules and decisions.

Urban Glide plans to focus on safe driving, better bus management, data-based route planning, and professional service.

Perhaps most importantly, the government will support operators with subsidies for electric buses and a payment safety system to reduce risks.

A Big Leap for Public Transport

Venad compared this change to India’s telecom revolution, saying, “Public transport is getting its Jio moment.” As more cities move to the GCC model, Urban Glide hopes to play a key role in making public travel cleaner, safer, and better for everyone.
