Zelio Expands Into the E-Rickshaw Segment at the EV India Expo 2024
Zelio Ebikes has entered the e-rickshaw market with two new models, the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. These E-rickshaws are designed for urban and semi-urban commuters and aim to provide last-mile connectivity solutions.
The launch of these models took place at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi. Priced at INR 1,45,000 and INR 1,40,000 (ex-showroom), respectively, these vehicles focus on offering innovation and affordability in the shared mobility segment.
Specifications and Features
- Range and Speed: Both models have a range of 100 km on a single charge and a top speed of 30 km/h.
- Battery and Motor: Equipped with a 1200W motor and a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery. A full charge takes approximately 8 hours using an SMPS charger with voltage fluctuation protection.
- Chassis and Dimensions: Built on a high-rigidity monocoque frame with a wheelbase of 2030 mm. The dimensions are 2690 mm in length, 1000 mm in width, 1710 mm in height, and 200 mm ground clearance.
Material and Colors
- Tanga Butterfly: Made with Mild Steel (MS) and available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green.
- Tanga SS: Made with Stainless Steel (SS) and comes in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.
Braking and Suspension Systems
Both models feature advanced braking and suspension systems for a smooth and safe ride:
- Braking: Front lever-operated drum brake, rear paddle-operated drum brake, and mechanical parking brake.
- Suspension: 43mm telescopic hydraulic shockers at the front and leaf spring shockers at the rear.
Additional Features
- Convenience: Equipped with LED headlamps, LED indicators, FM radio with double speakers, bottle holder, cash pocket, taxi light, and heavy curtains.
- Accessories: Includes a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack.
Dealer Network and Future Plans
Founded in 2021, Zelio has grown to over 273 dealerships, serving more than 200,000 customers. The company plans to expand its dealership network to 400 by March 2025 to meet the growing demand for sustainable transportation in India.
