A New Step Toward Clean Commercial Transport
ZF Friedrichshafen AG has launched a new electric air compressor called the e-comp Scroll for commercial vehicles. This new product was recently introduced at two major global events – the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in California and Auto Shanghai in China. It shows ZF’s strong focus on supporting cleaner and smarter transportation.
A Better Way to Use Compressed Air
In commercial vehicles, compressed air is used to run many important systems like brakes, suspension, and other support systems. In the past, these systems depended on piston-type compressors powered by diesel engines. But now, with the shift toward electric trucks and buses, older systems no longer fit well.
Electric vehicles make less noise than diesel ones. So, the old piston compressors, which were once hidden behind the sound of the engine, are now more noticeable. That’s where the e-comp Scroll compressor comes in. It offers a quiet, smooth, and oil-free solution for electric and hybrid trucks and buses.
A Quiet and Clean Solution
The e-comp Scroll uses a smart design with two scrolls moving in a circular motion to compress air silently and efficiently. It produces just 67 decibels of sound during normal operation—similar to the sound level in a quiet office. This makes the driving experience more comfortable and also reduces noise pollution.
Moreover, it is an oil-free system, which means there is no need to worry about oil leaks or extra maintenance. This not only helps protect the environment but also lowers the overall cost of running the vehicle.
Smart Features for Better Performance
In addition to being quiet and oil-free, the e-comp Scroll comes with many smart features. It has an electric motor that adjusts the speed based on how much air is needed. This means it only works when necessary, saving energy and increasing the life of the system.
The compressor also includes a liquid cooling shell and an integrated inverter. These help keep the temperature below 90°C, even when the vehicle is working hard. This improves safety and helps the compressor last longer, which is a big plus for fleet operators.
Paweł Porczyński, Head of Product Line for Chassis Solutions at ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division, said,
“With this quiet, oil-free, and low-vibration compressor, we are solving key problems for electric vehicles. It helps lower operating costs and makes the driving experience better.”
Lower Cost, Easy Maintenance
One of the biggest benefits of the e-comp Scroll is its low total cost of ownership. Since it doesn’t use oil and has fewer moving parts, it requires less maintenance. Fleet owners do not need to spend time or money on oil checks, leak management, or frequent repairs.
The simple and compact design also makes it easy to fit into different types of commercial vehicles. Whether it’s an electric truck in the city or a heavy-duty truck for long-distance, the compressor can be added without major changes.
A Key Part of ZF’s Electric Vision
The launch of this product is part of ZF’s bigger plan to support the move toward zero-emission vehicles. Through its Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division, ZF brings together years of experience from its own innovations and those from WABCO, which it acquired.
The CVS division helps vehicle makers and fleet owners in many areas—from smart control systems to electric drive solutions. The e-comp Scroll is just one example of how ZF is working toward cleaner and smarter transportation.
Helping Fleets Stay Ahead
As countries around the world push for lower emissions, transport companies need better technology to meet these goals. The e-comp Scroll is not just a small update—it is a major tool for helping fleets become more efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective.
With this new compressor, ZF offers a solution that supports both clean energy goals and everyday vehicle needs, helping commercial transport move forward with confidence.
