Delhi Launches 66 New Electric Buses by JBM
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 100 new DEVi buses from Narela Terminal on June 27, 2025. Out of these, 66 buses were made by JBM Electric Vehicles. They will begin service from the Nangloi Depot and serve the western and north-western parts of Delhi.
Why This Matters
Delhi wants greener and smarter transport. Adding electric buses helps lower air pollution and improves travel within the city. These buses will make it easier for people living in far areas to reach main transport hubs, making daily commutes simpler.
Made in Delhi-NCR
JBM built these buses in its Delhi-NCR factory, which is one of the largest electric bus plants outside China. It has the power to make 20,000 buses every year. This shows JBM's ability to meet big orders and back India’s electric vehicle plans.
Passenger-Friendly Features
The new buses come with helpful and safe features:
- Real-time Passenger Information System to track the bus
- CCTV cameras for safety
- Stop request buttons inside the bus
- Fire detection and alarms
- Vehicle health monitoring for regular upkeep
- Reserved seats for women to ensure comfort and safety.
In addition, the buses will help make travel better for many people in those areas.
Comfortable for Drivers Too
Drivers also benefit since the buses have ergonomic dashboards. These reduce distractions and make driving easier and safer.
JBM's Eco-Mobility Systems
JBM runs an entire eco-system under “JBM E‑Verse.” This includes:
- Their ECO-LIFE electric buses
- ECOBOLT battery packs
- ECOFUEL chargers that support fast charging
- Services to electrify bus depots
They also use digital systems for real-time bus tracking, cloud-based diagnostics, and data analysis. This helps keep buses running well, use energy wisely, and reduce costs.
Delhi's Bigger Green Goals
Delhi already has more than 2,000 electric buses. The city plans to go fully electric by 2027. This new fleet of 66 JBM buses will play a big role in that shift. Perhaps this will lead other cities to follow Delhi’s example.
Connecting the Dots
First, CM Rekha Gupta led the flag-off at the Narela Terminal. Then, the buses were sent to the Nangloi Depot. In addition, they will cover key routes in the western and north‑west Delhi area. This sequence shows how strategic planning, local production, and government support work together to improve public transport.
Moving Forward
Delhi’s DEVi initiative shows a clear push towards greener and smarter transit. It aligns with national programs like:
- Smart Cities Mission
- National Electric Mobility Mission Plan
- India’s Net Zero targets
However, it's more than just buses. It’s part of a system that focuses on sustainability and cost savings for cities and transport bodies.
In short, these 66 JBM-made buses are a big step for Delhi’s public transit. They are local, modern, safe, and part of a clear plan. If this growth continues, Delhi will lead India in clean, electric city transport.
