The Three wheeler segment saw a huge increase in its retail sales last month. Also, all the manufacturers in this segment saw significant growth in their sales reports.
In April 2022, retail sales were positive across all the segments, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, YoY. Three wheeler segment, which also includes auto rickshaws, has seen a 92.46% YoY growth in April 2022 retail sales. The segment recorded 39,913 unit sales in April 2022, which is higher than 20,738 sold in April 2021. However, the MoM sales declined by 11%, while it was a 301.21% increase over 10,567 units sold in April 2020.
Three Wheeler Sales Report April 2022 - Bajaj, Piaggio, YC Electric
Bajaj Auto Limited has topped the list and was the only brand to see retail sales over the 10,000 units mark. Last month, Bajaj Auto stood at 13,377 units, up 72.76% from 7,743 units sold in April 2021. However, the market share declined YoY to 31.5% from 35.78% held in April 2021. Also, the sales of Bajaj Auto are less than the 15,997 units sold in March 2022. The company plans to enter the electric three wheeler segment with an electric auto rickshaw range.
Piaggio sold 4,402 units in April 2022, increasing 30.28% from 3,379 units recorded in April 2021. The company’s market share currently stands at 10.38%, from 15.16% held in April 2021. Compared to March 2022, the company saw a decline of 5.25% from 4,646 units. The company has its manufacturing unit in Baramati, Maharashtra, with an annual production capacity of more than 3.80 lakh units. It offers electric 3 wheeler cargo - Ape E-Xtra and Ape E-city.
YC Electric Vehicle saw a huge growth in its three wheeler retail sales by 148.68%. The company stood at 1,885 units last month, increasing from 758 units sold in April 2021. YC Electric Vehicle’s market share also increased from 3.50% to 4.55% YoY. However, the company’s sales declined 22.14% from 2,421 units sold in March 2022.
Mahindra sold 1,767 units in April 2022, which is higher 30.31% than the 1,356 units retailed in April 2021. However, the market share was down from 6.27% to 4.17% YoY. The company also saw a decline of 2.70% from 1,816 units sold in March 2022.
Atul Auto retail sales are also increased in April 2022 by 57.26%. The company’s sales stood at 1,310 units last month, up from 833 units in April 2021. The company covered a 3.09% market share. However, Atul recorded a 4.17% decline in March 2022.
Mayuri (Saera Electric) brand reported 1,170 unit sales in April 2022, up 223.20% from 362 units in April 2021. The company’s market share is 2.76%. Mayuri’s retail sales decreased 5.49% from 1,238 units sold in March 2022.
TVS Motor stood at 1,110 units in April 2022, increasing 125.15% from 493 units recorded in April 2021. The company covered 2.62% market share YoY. However, TVS saw an 8.64% decline in March 2021.
The three-wheeler retail sales of Saarthi (Champion Poly Plast) also increased to 920 units in the last month, up 173% from 337 units sold in April 2021. Market share increased to 2.17% from 1.56% YoY. Saarthi saw an increase of 2.56% in sales from 897 units sold in March 2022.
City Life (Dilli Electric) followed with 814 unit retail sales in April 2022, increasing from 189 units sold in April 2021, while the market share currently stands at 1.92 units. However, the company saw a 10.35% decrement in March 2022.
Mini Metro EV stood at 638 units in April 2022, increasing 268.79% from 173 units sold in April 2021, while the company covered a 1.50% market share. From March 2022, the company saw a decline of 0.78%.
JS Auto stood at 498 units in April 2022, increasing 130.56% from 216 units sold in April 2021. The company’s market share stands at 1.17% YoY. However, JSA saw a decrease of 6.57% from 533 units sold in March 2022.
Terra Motors sold 497 units in April 2022, up 218.56% from 156 units retailed in April 2021. The company’s market share is 1.17% YoY. On the other hand, its retail sale recorded an 8.47% decline from 156 units sold in March 2022.
Jezza Motors (Vani) recorded 246 units in April 2022, an increase of 86.99% from 246 units in April 2021, while the company’s market share stands at 1.09% YoY. Compared to March 2022, the company recorded a 14.02% decline YoY.
The other three wheeler makers in the segment contributed 11,065 units to total retail sales last month.
