Efforts are going on to reduce the number of accidents by 50 per cent before the end of year 2025.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is committing to reducing the percentage of road injuries and fatalities. Therefore, the government will undertake multiple projects across all 4Es of road safety: Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Emergency Care.
Mr Niting Gadakri, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said that efforts are necessary from all the concerned departments to reduce road accidents by 50% by the end of 2025. During the “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan” in Road Safety Week, he said that the Govt. is working on a law to determine working hours for truck drivers. Road Safety Week happened from January 11 to 17th under the “Swachhata Pakhwada” for the “Safer Roads for All” cause.
Initiatives Happened During Road Safety Week:-
During Road Safety Week, the MoRTH organised many activities at multiple locations in Delhi. The activities include Nukkad Natak (skits & Street shows), sensitization campaigns, competitions for students, and exhibitions for road safety with the corporate offices. In addition, walkathon, talk shows, and a panel discussion with senior government officials and industry leaders.
Moreover, multiple road-owning agencies like NHAI, NHIDCL etc., regulated many events to comply with traffic rules and regulations. In addition, it has pedestrian safety and eye check-up camps for drivers at the toll plaza. Police and transport departments of states, union territories and the general public participated in the initiatives done by the government. The activities aimed at conducting awareness campaigns and first responder training. The activities ensure the strict enforcement of rules and regulations to the root level by performing these activities. It also includes workshops and advocacy programs related to road safety.
