With the target towards the mining sector, the Olectra brand is scheduled to launch the first electric tipper
Olectra’s first electric tipper is going to launch in March 2023. This will expand the tippers segment in India. It also claims that it will be the country’s first tipper in the EV segment. As per the official statements, this electric tipper is deployed in the workstations of MEIL (Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited). MEIL is the parent company of Olectra. This EV tipper has already received the pre-orders for mining applications.

Olectra has planned to release the electric tipper to fulfil the needs of the mining and logistics sector. The electric tipper comes under the 28-tonnage capacity. This tipper is available in 6x4 axle configurations. It is a heavy-duty tipper with bigger load body volume options of 16 cubic meters and 19 cubic metres. Its overall dimension is 8250 x 2550 x 3500 MM in length, width, and height, respectively. The model has a wheelbase of 4975 MM. This 6x4 electric tipper follows a tipping angle of 46 degrees and 25% gradeability. It equips a powerful battery with a rated power of 270 kW (362 HP) and a maximum torque of 2400 NM.
This MHCV is a purely electric vehicle with a tire type of 12 R 20.00. The current variant of this tipper features a certified range of 150 km per charge with complete charging capability within 2 hours by a DC charger. DC charger will protect its battery life and quality. With the electric fuel type, it will have an edge with lower maintenance and operational costs. Additionally, there is no need to avail oxygen cylinders for mining workers while this electric tipper enters in mining zone. In contrast, when an ICE tipper comes into the mines, the workforce must be evacuated, and it consumes more oxygen inside the mines. Hence this mining tipper results in continuous operations.
Official Statements By Olectra Brand
Last year, KV Pradeep, CMD of Olectra, stated that electric trucks would be a game changer in the segment as the cost of fossil fuels skyrocketed. Since then, the brand has been testing the tipper in various geographic conditions throughout the country. The tipper was also tested near Atal Tunnel, Rajasthan, and other areas. With modernisation, the spending on infrastructure and mining projects would be increased, and the demand for electric tipper trucks would be higher. Moreover, the Indian tipper truck market is expected to be worth $3.10 billion by 2024.
Olectra, which was founded in 2000, launched its first electric bus range in India in 2015. In 2023, the company was awarded a contract to supply 2,100 electric buses to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST). In addition, the company is the only OEM in the country producing 7 million electric buses.
