Tata Motors Expands Recycling Efforts with New Vehicle Scrapping Centres

Tata Motors has announced plans to launch 10 new vehicle scrapping centres within the next year, under its Re.Wi.Re brand. The company already operates five Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) with a total capacity of about 80,000 vehicles. These existing centres will now be run through a franchise model, and the additional 10 centres will increase their capacity to handle a total of 2 lakh vehicles annually.

The vehicle scrapping policy introduced by the Indian government in 2022 aims to phase out old vehicles, including cars older than 20 years and commercial vehicles older than 15 years. To support this, Tata Motors is working on expanding its scrapping infrastructure by adding more RVSFs across the country. The company is committed to supporting this initiative by providing modern facilities and digital processes to ensure responsible recycling of vehicles.

Official Statement by Tata Motors On Vehicle Scrapping Facility

Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, shared more details during the 64th SIAM annual convention. “He stated that work on these 10 new scrapping centres has already begun, with a planned capacity of around 1.2 lakh vehicles. Wagh also emphasized that the company is focusing on sustainable practices and responsible recycling through this vehicle scrapping initiative.

With the new centres, Tata Motors will be able to handle around 2 lakh vehicle scrappings across all 15 facilities. The company is working with international experts to implement advanced IT and digital systems, ensuring a smooth and efficient scrapping process.”

Tata Motors’ Commitment to Sustainability and Zero Emissions

This expansion is part of Tata Motors’ broader sustainability goals. The company aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 as part of the Tata Group’s environmental sustainability initiative, Aalingana. This initiative, launched in 2022, focuses on biodiversity, circularity, and reducing carbon emissions.

Girish Wagh also shared “Tata Motors’ future plans for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), particularly in the commercial vehicle segment. The company is exploring alternative fuel technologies, including battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, and hydrogen internal combustion engines. These technologies are expected to play a key role in Tata Motors’ journey toward reducing emissions and supporting greener transportation in India.”
