We are back with the January sales report of three wheeler retails. The sales of three wheeler sales grew 28.37% YoY, with Bajaj Auto topping the list.
Three wheeler retail sales increased in January 2022 by 28.37%. The segment reported 39,548 unit sales in January 2022 against 30,807 units sold in January 2021. But, it was a de-growth of 36.61% over 63,805 units registered in January 2020.
Three Wheeler Retail Sales In Jan 2022 – Bajaj Leads
Three wheeler retail sales charts are led by Bajaj Auto, with 14,794 units retailed in January 2022 over 11,560 units retailed in January 2021. Market share of Bajaj Auto dipped to 36.57% in Jan 2022 from 37.10% held in Jan 2021. Maxima C, Compact RE, Maxima Z and Maxima X Wide are some key models of Bajaj Auto. The company is also planning to launch electric three wheelers in India in Q1 of 2023 in passenger and cargo segments.
Along with this, the company has been actively testing its battery-powered electric three wheelers for some time now. In addition, it is also planning to set up a new electric three wheeler manufacturing plant in Aurangabad.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. stands in the second position in the charts with 3,872 units of three wheeler sales sold last month. It was a year-on-year decline against 5,375 units sold in January 2021, reducing its market share to 9.57%, from 17.25% in January 2021. Piaggio's AP Xtra HT range, launched early last year, has received a good response in the country. The vehicle model is priced between Rs 2.25 lakh to Rs 2.56 lakh.
At the third position was YC Electric, with 1,676 units of three wheelers in January 2022. It grew 42.88% against 173 units sold in January 2021. The company's market share grew from 3.76% in Jan 2021 to 4.14% in Jan 2022. The company's Yatri range of battery e rickshaws has high demand in India.
Next, Mahindra stands at the fourth position with 1,390 units sold in January 2022, a dip from 1,405 units sold in January 2021. Atul Auto also registered a decline in three wheeler retail to 1,221 units from 1,327 units on a YoY basis.
Saera Electric sales increased from 406 units to 907 units on a year-on-year basis.
TVS, Champion, Dilli
TVS Motors also registered good growth in three wheeler retails, with 94 units sold in January 2022 from 798 units sold in January 2021. Champion Polyplast's sales last month stood at 747 units, up from 425 units sold in January 2021, while Dilli Electric's sales grew from 304 units sold in January 2021 to 737 units retailed in January 2022.
Best Way Agencies (663 units), Unique International (651 units) and JS Auto (543 units) posted year-on-year growth in retail sales. Terra Motors (476 units), Mini Metro (467 units) and Thukral (451 units) also saw significant year-on-year growth in retail sales. The other three wheeler makers sold 10,059 units in January 2022, up from 6,185 units sold in January 2021.
