Tata Motors has always been a trusted name when it comes to commercial and passenger vehicles in India. And now, with the Magic EV, Tata has taken a strong step into the electric mobility space for shared transportation. This vehicle is all about making everyday travel simple, eco-friendly, and cost-effective. It’s designed especially for those who need a dependable people mover, but without the rising fuel expenses.

The Magic EV keeps the familiar Tata Magic design—tall, compact, and built for purpose. The proportions are smart, with a length of just under 3.8 metres, making it easy to drive even through narrow city lanes. The front is upright, giving it good road presence, while the rear is squarely designed to make space for more people inside.

The headlamps, mirrors, and body panels all look solid and functional, built to take on rough daily use without showing signs of fatigue. It also sits on 4 wheels with a 2180 kg GVW, which adds to its confidence on the road. Overall, the build feels tough and very much in tune with what it’s meant to do—carry people reliably and safely.

The Tata Magic EV has enough space for 10 passengers, and the seating layout has been designed to maximise room. The seating position is slightly elevated, giving passengers better visibility, and there’s ample headroom too.

Now, one of the best things here is the upgraded dashboard. It looks neat and well-laid-out, with a digital cluster that adds a modern touch. For the driver, the ergonomics are much better than what we have seen in older Magic versions. The gear lever is well place, controls are easily reachable, and overall, the setup feels more driver-friendly.

There’s also better insulation now, so the cabin feels quieter, especially since there’s no engine noise. It may not be a luxury interior, but for a utility vehicle, it ticks the right boxes.

The Tata Magic EV comes with an electric motor that offers a torque of around 90 to 115 Nm and can hit a top speed of 80 kmph. Now, that might not sound like a lot, but for a city van carrying passengers, this is quite adequate. The pickup is smooth, and since there are no gears to shift like in petrol or diesel vans, driving feels much easier.

What's really impressive is the range. Depending on usage, you can get anywhere between 100 to 140 km on a single charge. This is more than enough for a full day’s use in cities or towns. Charging the battery is also simple. It takes around 6 to 6.5 hours for a full charge using a regular slow charger. If you're in a hurry, the fast charger does the job in about 1.1 hours. That’s a big advantage when you need quick turnarounds.

Another neat addition is the eco-switch and gear shift advisor, which help the driver manage the vehicle more efficiently and save battery where possible. There’s also an advanced battery cooling system and IP67-rated waterproof parts, which means the vehicle is built to handle Indian conditions—dust, heat, and rain.

Overall, the drive quality is calm and steady, with a good suspension setup (semi-elliptical leaf springs at both ends) that can handle rough patches well.

Now, when you’re carrying passengers every day, safety becomes very important. And Tata seems to have given it the attention it deserves in the Magic EV. For starters, the van comes with a reverse camera which makes parking much easier, especially in tight spots. The braking setup is reliable, and you do get ABS, which adds to the confidence during sudden stops.

There are many small but important features too. It has a solid body structure and a strong undercarriage with well-built aggregates. The turning radius is just 4.3 metres, which makes it easier and safer to handle in crowded areas. The vehicle comes with features like a digital instrument cluster that keeps the driver informed at all times.

One area where the Magic EV could improve is in adding more advanced safety features like airbags or a reinforced cabin crash structure. While it's great for basic daily runs, it may fall short when compared to some other premium options in terms of advanced safety tech.
