AMPSTAR 4x2 and 6x4 electric tractor trucks receive CMVR certification as JSW Greentech begins commercial deployment
Mumbai, October 28, 2026: JSW Greentech Limited has announced its first commercial order for 100 AMPSTAR 4x2 55T electric tractor trucks for JSW Cement's industrial transport operations at Vijaynagar. The fleet will carry clinker and slag along an approximately 330-km route between Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, and Vijaynagar, Karnataka, moving an estimated 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo every month.
JSW Eco-Mobility will provide Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) and develop a dedicated electric transport corridor with four battery-swapping stations. Paradeep Parivahan Limited will serve as the logistics partner. According to the company, the project aims to save around 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid approximately 6,250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the contract period.
The announcement also marks an important step for AMPSTAR, which JSW Greentech introduced just over a month ago. In addition, the company's 4x2 and 6x4 electric trucks have received Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), confirming compliance with the required safety, performance and regulatory standards for Indian roads.
AMPSTAR 4x2 Electric Tractor Truck Specifications
The AMPSTAR 4x2 55T electric tractor truck delivers a peak power output of 430 kW and peak torque of 2,600 Nm. JSW Greentech has designed the vehicle for heavy-duty transport operations under Indian working conditions.
The fleet will support the movement of industrial materials between the two locations. Moreover, the battery-swapping network will allow trucks to replace depleted batteries with charged ones, helping operators manage regular transport schedules without relying solely on conventional charging.
JSW Greentech Begins Heavy-Duty Electric Truck Deployment
Commenting on the deployment, Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech Limited, said, “The 55T electric tractor truck, first showcased at our AMPSTAR brand launch, represents one of the most demanding vehicle architectures in commercial transportation. In just over a month, we have reached a significant milestone, with the first 100 trucks being deployed for JSW Cement’s industrial freight movement, supported by JSW Eco-Mobility as a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) partner. With this, we are building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem, including a dedicated electric corridor with battery-swapping stations to enable the seamless movement of materials. This deployment brings together our full stack electric mobility solution to make electric heavy-duty transportation commercially viable. Our ambition with AMPSTAR is to be a catalyst in transforming how businesses move goods across India. These first 100 trucks mark an important step towards that vision”
Narinder Kahlon, Director of Finance at JSW Cement, said, “At JSW Cement, we are committed to building more sustainable and efficient industrial operations. The deployment of 100 AMPSTAR electric trucks marks an important step towards decarbonising our logistics operations while supporting the movement of materials across our supply chain. With an integrated electric mobility solution backed by battery-swapping infrastructure, we aim to reduce our dependence on diesel, lower emissions and advance our sustainability objectives without compromising operational efficiency”
Manufacturing Facility Planned in Maharashtra
JSW Greentech plans to manufacture its electric commercial vehicles at a greenfield facility under development across approximately 90 acres at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.
The facility will include an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem. In addition, the company will receive research and development support from its centre in Pune.
Company to Offer Multiple Business and Ownership Models
AMPSTAR plans to offer electric commercial vehicles with power outputs ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW. Buyers will have options such as outright purchase, leasing and Battery-as-a-Service, along with charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support.
However, the company does not plan to limit its portfolio to tractor trucks. JSW Greentech intends to expand the range with electric tippers and fixed-body dumpers, giving businesses more options for heavy-duty transport. This expansion will build on the company's current move into commercial electric trucking.
