Blue Energy Motors (BEM) has taken a big step towards clean and sustainable transport in India. The company launched an electric heavy-duty truck with advanced battery swapping technology at its Chakan plant in Pune. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the event and also inaugurated the Mumbai-Pune Electric Highway Corridor, marking the beginning of India’s first electrified highway route.
The Mumbai-Pune corridor is just the beginning of a larger plan. Over the next three years, India aims to electrify major national highway corridors, creating a connected and sustainable freight network. This move supports India’s Net Zero goals and pushes the country closer to a cleaner and greener logistics future.
To accelerate this vision, BEM signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government to set up a new truck manufacturing plant. This facility will be capable of producing 30,000 electric trucks every year with an investment of ₹3,500 crore. In addition, the company has already secured orders for more than 10,000 electric trucks, showing strong market interest in electric freight vehicles.
Speaking at the event, CM Devendra Fadnavis said Maharashtra continues to lead in green innovation and sustainable mobility. He mentioned that this project strongly supports Atmanirbhar Bharat and the country’s long-term environmental goals.
According to Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, this launch marks the start of a new era in heavy-duty electric trucks. The trucks come with unlimited range through battery swapping, a high payload capacity, and smart mobility intelligence for better fleet performance.
In addition, BEM’s Energy-as-a-Service model helps customers reduce upfront costs, save on charging time, and achieve the lowest total cost of ownership. These electric trucks are designed especially for Indian roads and follow the company’s earlier success with LNG-powered vehicles.
Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, which is a key partner in this venture, called the launch a major milestone in India’s decarbonization journey. Together, Blue Energy Motors and Essar aim to promote green mobility, sustainable infrastructure, and cleaner energy solutions across India.
