Two Truck and Bus Makers Start a New Chapter Together in Turin

Tata Motors and Iveco Group officially became one commercial vehicle enterprise. Tata Motors is the biggest commercial vehicle maker in India, and Iveco Group is a well-known international maker of trucks, buses and engines. The leaders announced the news at a global press meet in Turin, Italy. With this step, the new company now ranks fourth in the world among commercial vehicle makers. In addition, it has the size and skill to compete in many markets, no matter how technology changes.

The announcement ends the planning stage. From now on, the two companies will work as one group, and each will keep its own strengths. The merger also brings together two firms with long histories, strong brands and products that cover almost every kind of commercial transport.

The Combined Company at a Glance

The new group sells its vehicles in more than 130 countries. These include markets in Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Together, the two companies sell about 590,000 vehicles and earn about €21 billion (INR 2,28,000 Cr.+) in revenue. They also run 27 factories and 25 research centres. Moreover, about 9,300 sales and service centres help customers worldwide. Over 73,000 employees on six continents power all of this. This wide network gives the group a strong base in both developed markets and fast-growing ones.

Leaders Explain Why the Deal Matters

Three top leaders spoke at the event. First, N Chandrasekaran, who chairs Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group, shared his hopes for the future. He also thanked the Italian Government, regulators in many countries, employees and shareholders for their support. He said:

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Tata Motors and Iveco Group. Two strong and successful organisations, united by shared values, a common commitment to sustainable mobility and an ambition to shape the future of commercial transportation, have come together to create a truly global commercial mobility enterprise. We will invest for the long term, enable ideas and capabilities to flow in both directions, and harness our combined scale, reach and talent to shape a future of mobility that is safer, smarter, more connected and more sustainable. I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Italian Government, the regulatory authorities across jurisdictions, our employees, shareholders and all the stakeholders whose trust, cooperation and support have helped us reach this important milestone. I also warmly welcome our colleagues from Iveco Group into the Tata family and look forward to all that we can achieve together.”

Next, Girish Wagh, who leads Tata Motors as MD and CEO, spoke about how the two teams will work together. He stressed that customers, dealers and partners will see continuity from day one. He said:

“We are pleased to turn our strategic vision into an operational reality alongside our colleagues at Iveco Group. Together we have a compelling opportunity to create greater value for our customers and stakeholders. Our complementary portfolios, capabilities and geographic strengths provide a strong foundation for growth, while ensuring continuity from day one for customers, dealers and partners. Our ambition is to build a stronger enterprise by combining our strengths in engineering, new age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks. We will accelerate innovation, broaden our reach and bring advanced solutions to customers faster and more competitively.”

Then, Olof Persson, the CEO of Iveco Group, added his view. He also thanked employees, customers, dealers, suppliers and partners. He said:

“This is a defining moment for Iveco Group, and one we approach with confidence and great energy. We begin this new chapter proudly, with the brands, people, capabilities and industrial heritage that have shaped our company, alongside Tata Motors, a partner of great strength, with a deep understanding of the commercial vehicle business and a shared long-term perspective and commitment to sustainable transport. I want to thank our employees, customers, dealers, suppliers and partners for their trust and support. We now have the opportunity to build on everything Iveco Group has achieved, unlock new possibilities with Tata Motors and create an even stronger future.”

Both Companies Keep Their Own Identity

The deal rests on a simple idea: each company stays strong on its own, and both grow stronger together. Iveco Group will keep its headquarters in Turin. Its brands, teams and factories will also keep their separate identities. Because of this plan, the well-known brands will stay in place. Meanwhile, Tata Motors will back the current plans and investments of Iveco Group. At the same time, the two companies will share their strengths, build their skills and bring more value to customers and investors.

Customers and Partners Will Notice No Change

First of all, the companies promise a smooth start. Customers, dealers, suppliers and partners can expect things to run as usual from the first day. Current customer contracts, dealer and supplier ties, warranties, after-sales promises and in-house financing plans all stay the same. In addition, the same dedicated teams and networks will keep serving them.

A Wide Range of Vehicles and Engines

Tata Motors and Iveco Group fit together well because their strengths differ. Tata Motors makes cargo vehicles that weigh less than one tonne and others that carry up to 55 tonnes. It also builds passenger vehicles with seats for 10 to 51 people. The company is strong in India and in fast-growing markets in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Iveco Group, in contrast, makes light, medium and heavy trucks, along with city and long-distance buses. Europe and Latin America are its strongest markets. Furthermore, its engine arm, FPT, builds power systems for roads, off-road machines, boats and power plants. In other words, the two product lists add to each other instead of overlapping. As a result, customers can choose from more vehicles, technologies and engines.

Many Paths to Cleaner Transport

The combined group also offers engines for almost every fuel type. These include regular combustion engines, natural gas, battery-electric power and hydrogen. In addition, the group works on other new options that release little or no pollution. Each customer works in a different place and has a different budget, so one type of power does not suit everyone. Because of this wide range, the company can cut emissions in several ways. Therefore, it can match the needs of each customer and each market while it moves toward cleaner transport.

Tata Motors and Iveco Group also bring strong skills in advanced engines, alternative energy, software, connected technology and manufacturing. Together, these skills should help them launch smarter and greener vehicles faster and in larger numbers.

Bigger Scale Brings New Chances for Everyone

The extra size will help the companies bring new ideas to market sooner and at lower cost. In simple terms, a larger company can share costs, ideas and tools across more markets. However, the gains do not stop with the two companies. Suppliers, dealers and distributors also get more room to grow. They can enter new markets, find fresh business and help deliver more value to customers around the world.

Employees Gain New Ways to Learn and Grow

More than 73,000 people work at the new group, and they bring deep experience and different views. The deal gives them more chances to team up, learn and move ahead in their careers. Technology, engineering know-how, market knowledge and best practices will travel in both directions. As a result, each team can learn from the other, build new products faster and take proven solutions to more places.

What Comes Next

Tata Motors and Iveco Group have deep roots in India and Europe, and they also have a big presence in Latin America and other markets. Looking ahead, they share one goal. They want to build a stronger, more creative and tougher company that can lead as transport changes quickly.

For now, the top task is to keep business running smoothly. Over time, however, the companies hope to do much more. They plan to speed up innovation, give customers more choice and open new ways to grow. Finally, they aim to push the world toward cleaner, safer and smarter transport. In short, the first step is done, and the real work now begins.
