Tata Motors Launch’s Signa 3118.T 3-Axle 6x2 Truck

India's first 3-axle 6x2 (10-wheeler) rigid truck with a GVW of 31 tonnes.

Tata Motors has recently launched its latest truck in the M&HCV segment, the Tata Signa 3118.T. According to Tata Motors, the truck is India's first 3-axle 6x2 (10-wheeler) rigid truck with a GVW of 31 tonnes.

The OEM highlighted that the Tata Signa 3118.T has a higher certified payload, 3,500 kg more than the corresponding 28-tonne GVW truck, with the cost of operations, tyre and maintenance cost remains the same. The company will launch the truck in several phases across different states and markets.

Tata Signa 3118.T Engine and Transmission

The Tata Signa 3118.T is powered by a Cummins BS-VI engine that generates a power of 186 Hp and an 850 Nm torque. It is equipped with a G950 6-speed transmission and heavy-duty axles.

Rajesh Kaul, VP, Sales and Marketing, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "Features such as a fuel economy switch, gear shift advisor, ICGT brakes, fleet edge telematics system with inbuilt anti-fuel theft, and reverse parking assistance compliment the vehicle design and exceed the expectations of the new-age customer. The Lx version of the truck will come with an air-conditioning unit and unitised wheel bearings''.

According to Tata Motors, the incremental investment incurred on Tata Signa 3118.T over the parallelly existing 28-tonne truck can be recovered in less than a year, followed by years of gradual earnings.

Tata Signa 3118.T - GVW and Certification

The truck comes with a 12.5-tonne dual tyre lift axle and can operate at a GVW of 31 tonnes with the lift axle down and at a GVW of 18.5 tonnes with the lift axle pointing upwards, offering a large bandwidth in terms of operating payload.

The company says that operating the truck with the lift axle pointing upwards will help oil-tankers yield a higher fuel economy in empty returns. The truck is suitable for all kinds of tanker applications, from petroleum to oil and lubricants, chemicals, bitumen, edible oil, milk, water, industrial goods such as LPG cylinders, and agricultural products, among others.

The Tata Signa 3118.T is certified by the Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization 9PESO) as a 25KL POL tanker, 2KL higher than the highest capacity allowed in the case of a 10-wheeler, 28-tonne GVW truck.
