As per the latest data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), commercial vehicle (CV) retail sales in India stood at 73,367 units in June 2025, up 6.60% from 68,825 units in June 2024. This growth reflects sustained infrastructure activity, increased movement of goods, and a revival in demand across segments including light, intermediate, and heavy commercial vehicles.
In June 2025, major OEMs like Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, VECV, Force Motors, and Maruti Suzuki registered healthy year-on-year growth, contributing to the overall market expansion. However, market leader Tata Motors reported a YoY decline, reflecting possible inventory corrections or subdued fleet demand in some categories.
Reflecting on June 2025 Auto Retail results, FADA President Mr. C S Vigneshwar said: “CV retails declined 2.97% MoM while achieving a robust 6.6% YoY expansion. Early-month deliveries buoyed volumes before monsoon-induced slowdowns and constrained liquidity dampened enquiries and conversions. Members pointed to the impact of new CV taxation and mandatory air-conditioned cabins, which have elevated ownership costs, alongside muted infrastructure demand. Overall, June reflected a resilient CV segment adeptly navigating cost pressures and a softening economy.”
Tata Motors led the CV segment with 24,436 units sold in June 2025 but witnessed a 6.13% decline compared to 26,031 units in June 2024. This dip may be linked to market normalization post previous fleet purchases and moderated demand in select regional markets.
Mahindra secured the second position with 19,683 units, marking a 12.89% YoY growth from 17,435 units last year. The company continues to gain traction in the LCV space, especially with its Furio and Bolero Pik-Up range.
Ashok Leyland clocked 13,049 units, a 14.47% increase over 11,399 units in June 2024. Strong performance in the HCV and passenger vehicle categories has supported the brand’s continued growth trajectory.
VE Commercial Vehicles (a joint venture between Volvo and Eicher Trucks) recorded 6,901 units in June 2025, growing 16.12% from 5,943 units in June 2024. The brand is benefitting from its robust product lineup in both the truck and bus segments.
Maruti Suzuki posted 3,296 units, showing a 14.01% increase from 2,891 units a year ago. The brand continues to strengthen its position in the mini-truck and goods carrier market.
Force Motors reported a significant 32.04% YoY growth with 2,036 units sold in June 2025 versus 1,542 units in June 2024. The company’s performance reflects strong demand for rural transport and small passenger CVs.
Daimler India (BharatBenz) sold 1,641 units, growing 9.25% over 1,502 units in June 2024. The performance is supported by demand for premium HCVs in industrial and construction applications.
SML Isuzu saw a slight decline of 0.91%, with 1,639 units sold compared to 1,654 units last year. The brand remains consistent in the ICV and small bus segments.
Others See Strong Growth
The ‘Others’ category registered 686 units, up 60.28% from 428 units in June 2024. This category includes smaller OEMs and niche players gaining foothold in regional and specialized markets.
