Electric Fleet to Move 5 Million MT of Materials Annually
Mumbai, 2 September 2026: UltraTech Cement Limited plans to expand its electric truck fleet to more than 600 heavy-duty EV trucks by December 2026. The company aims to make its logistics operations cleaner while reducing diesel use across its supply chain.
The new electric trucks will transport around 5 million metric tonnes (MT) of clinker and other key materials every year. The fleet will operate across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.
In addition, UltraTech expects the electric fleet to reduce more than 1,17,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year once all the trucks become fully operational. The move could also replace the use of around 39 million litres of diesel annually.
UltraTech Partners With Major EV Truck Makers
UltraTech has signed service contracts with several electric truck manufacturers and logistics partners. These include Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and other third-party logistics providers.
The company will use these trucks for different logistics activities across its network. These include the movement of materials from mines to plants and the transport of clinker between plants.
Expanding Green Logistics Across India
UltraTech has been working on cleaner transport solutions for several years. The company started using CNG trucks in 2021 and introduced electric trucks in 2024.
However, the company now plans to take this transition to a much larger scale. UltraTech currently operates more than 850 trucks under its green logistics operations, including both CNG and electric trucks.
Mr K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited, said,“UltraTech is expanding sustainability beyond its plants by adopting greener logistics solutions. This large-scale transition to green logistics underscores our focus on decarbonising every link of our value chain and supports our commitment to achieving Net Zero.”
Electric Trucks to Support UltraTech’s Supply Chain
UltraTech has a grey cement capacity of more than 200 MTPA in India and manages a large logistics network. Therefore, shifting more heavy-duty transport to electric trucks can help the company lower emissions from its transport operations.
Perhaps more importantly, the 600+ electric truck fleet shows the growing use of EVs in heavy commercial transport. In addition, UltraTech’s move highlights how large industries can use electric trucks for long-distance material movement.
The company says this transition will support its wider goal of reducing emissions across its value chain and moving closer to its Net Zero commitment.
