Nimbahera, Rajasthan | July 28, 2026: Wonder Cement and Montra Electric have announced the deployment of around 250 Montra Electric Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT electric trucks on one of India's longest commercial freight routes. The trucks will run on the Nimbahera–Dahej Port and Nimbahera–Tuna Port corridors, covering nearly 1,450 km across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
The project marks one of the biggest electric truck deployments in India's commercial vehicle industry. Moreover, it aims to prove that electric heavy-duty trucks can handle long-distance freight operations just like conventional diesel trucks.
The fleet will transport cement on one of the country's busiest industrial corridors. Unlike pilot projects, these trucks will operate every day with full loads while following the same schedule as diesel trucks.
In addition, the companies have built a dedicated charging network to support the operations. The route includes 13 charging stations equipped with 39 chargers, allowing the trucks to complete their daily trips without affecting logistics schedules.
As a result, Wonder Cement plans to reduce emissions while maintaining smooth transportation across multiple states.
The Montra Electric Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT is a 55-tonne Gross Combination Weight (GCW) electric tractor-trailer specially designed for industries such as cement and steel transportation.
The truck comes with a 282 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). Together, they produce 280 kW of peak power and 2,000 Nm of torque.
Furthermore, the truck offers 18% gradeability and uses a 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), making it suitable for carrying heavy loads on different road conditions.
Montra Electric commercial vehicles says the Rhino 5538 EV delivers a tested range of up to 198 km per charge under real operating conditions with one loaded trip and one empty return trip.
The company offers the truck in two versions:
Therefore, fleet operators can choose the configuration that best matches their operations.
Electric trucks have traditionally faced challenges related to range, payload capacity, and battery performance during heavy-duty operations. However, this deployment aims to address all three concerns under real commercial conditions.
By operating on one of India's busiest cement transport routes, Montra Electric hopes to create a practical model that other industries can also adopt. In addition, the company believes the project will encourage more businesses to shift towards electric freight transportation.
According to the companies, once all 250 trucks become operational, the fleet is expected to save around 39,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
Speaking about the partnership, Mr. Kiran Patil, Managing Director, Wonder Cement, said, "Sustainability is at the core of Wonder Cement's growth strategy, driving innovation across our entire value chain. The deployment of around 250 electric trucks on a 1,450-km industrial corridor is a significant step toward decarbonizing logistics and reducing our environmental footprint beyond manufacturing. In partnership with Montra Electric, we are demonstrating that long-haul freight electrification is both operationally reliable and commercially viable. This initiative reinforces our commitment to responsible growth and supports India's transition to a cleaner, low-carbon future while setting new sustainability benchmarks for the cement industry."
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd.), said, "India's freight emissions are concentrated on its long-haul industrial corridors, and that is where electrification has to prove itself. With Wonder Cement, we are putting electric heavy trucks into daily, fully loaded, long duty cycles on one of the country's busiest freight routes. This deployment moves the question from 'whether electric trucks can handle long-haul freight?' to 'how quickly fleets can scale them?' It underpins our commitment to deploy around 250 electric heavy commercial vehicles across India's key industrial corridors."
Meanwhile, Mr. Navneet Sethi, CEO (eM&HCV division), Montra Electric (IPLTech Electric Pvt. Ltd.), added, "We are grateful to Wonder Cement for its partnership and confidence in this deployment. Demonstrating commercial and operational viability on an intensive 1,450-km industrial corridor establishes that sustainable long-haul logistics is ready to scale today. Our vehicles have been engineered for precisely these conditions at high utilisation, heavy payloads and demanding turnaround times. We are proud to work with Wonder Cement in setting this precedent for the industry."
The Wonder Cement partnership forms part of Montra Electric's larger plan to deploy more than 250 electric heavy commercial vehicles across major industrial corridors in India.
Perhaps more importantly, this project shows how electric trucks can move beyond short-distance operations and enter large-scale industrial logistics. As charging infrastructure continues to grow, similar deployments could become more common across sectors such as cement, steel, mining, and manufacturing.
With this initiative, Wonder Cement and Montra Electric have taken another important step toward cleaner and more sustainable freight transportation in India.
