BEML Launches 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck for Mining & Infrastructure
BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV, India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, at its Mysuru Complex. The company launched the electric dump truck on September 30, 2026, as it expands its electric mobility portfolio for the mining and infrastructure sectors.
The BH60-EV combines a high payload capacity with an advanced electric powertrain. In addition, it produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation, helping mining and infrastructure companies move towards cleaner operations. BEML has designed the truck to handle demanding work conditions while also focusing on efficiency, safety, and operator comfort.
Shri Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, virtually launched the electric dump truck in the presence of functional directors, senior officers, and employees. The launch also highlights BEML’s focus on developing electric solutions for heavy-duty applications.
BH60-EV Offers 54,500 Kg Payload Capacity
The BH60-EV comes with a 54,500 kg payload capacity when equipped with a rock body. It also offers a 36.4 cubic metre volumetric body capacity, allowing it to carry large quantities of material during mining and infrastructure operations.
At the same time, the electric dump truck delivers high tractive effort and instant torque. Therefore, it can support operations on gradients and challenging work sites. Its electric platform also aims to improve energy efficiency while reducing the dependence on conventional fuel.
BEML says the BH60-EV can deliver 40–60% lower operating costs than conventional diesel-powered equipment, depending on operating conditions. Moreover, each vehicle could help reduce around 130 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
1,000 kWh Battery Powers the Electric Dump Truck
The BH60-EV uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) connected to a rugged gearbox. The motor draws power from a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack.
This combination provides the power and torque needed for heavy-duty mining applications. Perhaps more importantly, the electric powertrain can deliver instant torque, which supports strong acceleration and better performance on gradients.
BEML has also developed a complete charging station solution for the BH60-EV. The charging system can work with site electrical infrastructure and can scale according to fleet requirements. As a result, customers can plan both the electric truck and its charging setup according to their operational needs.
Focus on Safety and Operator Comfort
However, performance is not the only focus of the new electric dump truck. BEML has also worked on safety and operator comfort for demanding work environments.
The BH60-EV gets a spacious and ergonomic cabin along with a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS). It also features emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes. These features aim to provide better protection, control, and comfort during long working hours.
Shri Shantanu Roy said, "The BH60-EV marks a significant milestone in BEML’s journey towards next-generation electric mobility for heavy industry. It demonstrates our capability to develop high-capacity electric equipment tailored to the demanding requirements of mining and infrastructure. With indigenous engineering, advanced battery technology and a strong focus on performance, safety and sustainability, we are creating solutions that can support both industrial productivity and the transition towards a cleaner future."
BEML Expands Its Electric Equipment Portfolio
The BH60-EV follows BEML’s 35-ton electric dump truck, which the company launched on April 10, 2026. With the new 60-ton model, BEML is further expanding its electric equipment range for heavy-duty applications.
In addition, the company aims to use its in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities to develop next-generation equipment for both Indian and global markets. BEML operates across Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction, and Rail & Metro segments.
With the BH60-EV, the company is taking another step towards electric mobility in heavy industry while addressing the need for lower-emission and more efficient mining equipment.
